Angela, it’s lovely to have you visit again, especially with such a fascinating subject! Before we begin, can you give the readers a quick reminder of who you are, and what you do?

AC: Hello, and thanks for having me again, Julie! I’m Angela Cairns, and I’ve been a physio, acupuncturist, energy healer, coach, and author for forty years now.

That’s an impressive span of experience.

AC: It works out at around 90,000 consults so far!

And what does 90,000 consults look like?

AC: Good question!

It looks like someone who has seen all sorts, types, and circumstances, who won’t be judging or blaming, and who can offer warmth without fluff, and support without enabling.

With decades of experience, and a lot of training hours under my belt, I have a diverse bag of tricks, love joining the dots with people, and integrating skills to get great results. I was initially trained in physiotherapy—a science based discipline—but I love integrating ancient wisdoms, so I also use acupuncture, energy healing, and coaching.

Over the years, I‘ve gained strength, combined with gentleness and practical wisdom. I’ve done my own apprenticeship; the eighty-hour weeks, financial struggles, and staffing issues—all at a price of burnout and depression (which I can’t recommend!) My kids were both neurodivergent, we  adopted, I had a narcissistic parent, suffered the heartbreak of losing two friends way too young, experienced the traumas of elderly parents, and while I know I’m not alone in these things, I still believe life in all its messy glory is wonderful.

I absolutely believe in compassion, curiosity, and growing in consciousness. I’m an empathetic guide to help people navigate the maze, feel relaxed, and full of self-belief, because I’ve walked the path before.

The last time we spoke, you shared how creativity and energy work hand-in-hand. Today, we’re here to talk about the magic of chakras, colour, and coaching. Magic is the word you specifically used. Can you tell me why?

AC: Well, I believe in magic, and I believe that magic takes many forms, but it all starts with energy and intention, and in the end, it comes down to love. Not the fluffy romantic kind, the steady, committed, kind that’s forgiving, balanced, and unconditional. I find my magic in the framework of the chakras, their beautiful colours and powerful energy.

Each of us is born with unique gifts and we are an intrinsic part of the universal whole and there is an amazing ‘us’ shaped space waiting to be filled, waiting for us to step into our full potential. Sadly, we are sometimes encouraged to be someone else early in life—to ‘fit in’—and we forget who we really are. Or we inherit the traumas of previous generations and become victims of victims, resulting in our true self being pushed into a mould that doesn’t fit.

As we become more independent as adults we can choose what we believe, but we get held back by those voices inside our head loading us with fears and doubts that aren't ours to carry. We continue to wear the mask that helped us to fit in as children in an environment where we had little power or control.

Where do Chakras fit into this?

AC: Chakras are a representation of our energy system. The first, or root chakra, represents the base of our energy system, responsible for our primal needs; food, shelter, health, and family connection. This chakra sits in front of the coccyx, within the bowl of the pelvis, and is represented by the colour red. It's our energetic ‘grounding’ into life. Without grounding, higher chakras can’t function properly. A wonderful quote by Anodea Judith captures this beautifully. “You can't grow tall if your roots are weak," which ties in with how the root chakra holds unconscious beliefs formed in early life, especially around loyalty, survival, and security.

The Chakra System

Can you give an example of this?

AC: Sure. As kids we are programmed to survive, and therefore we adapt our mental and emotional responses to please the people around us and fit in with their beliefs. We do this because many of the values we are taught are useful to us. But also, because it's painful and can be dangerous to be excluded from the group when we are young or vulnerable.

We use our natural character strengths to develop strategies to ensure we are nurtured, loved and approved of. However, that can mean in later life, we overuse them to the point where those strategies become stressful or damaging and sabotage our performance.

Shirzad Chamine identifies these negative inner voices as ‘Saboteurs’, and from factor analysis research has identified ten negative factors or voices which can continue to produce negative feelings all through adult life. One example; strengths of attention to detail and diligence become over-perfectionism and anxiety, or can become the burden of feeling we are the only person who can get or make things right.

The term Saboteurs can sound quite alarming, so please share with the readers how they can identify, and therefore, overcome those saboteurs.

AC: We all have saboteurs, and fundamentally they are aspects of our mindset which operate from a position of fear, scarcity, and judgment. These beliefs are deeply rooted in the first chakra's domain. If readers are curious about their own saboteurs, I would encourage them to take the following free quiz at Positive Intelligence.

I've done the test myself and found it incredibly empowering to learn how to recognise and understand these saboteurs. For those curious on how it works, can you briefly explain the concept?

AC: In essence, tackling saboteurs is about taking the time to clear space inside to love ourselves as we were born to be. When get curious about who we truly are, and not who we were told to be, we discover how to fill our intended place in the world. When that place remains empty, it becomes hungry and restless, calling to us. Perhaps you can remember feeling a little stirring of rebellion inside you? The feeling that there must be more?

Yes, absolutely. I'm sure many are familiar with that stirring.

AC: So, when we find our space and feel that ‘right fit’, then life becomes clearer, and simpler—not always easier—but flow suddenly appears. Our creativity blossoms, we attract the right people, and our work, and life feel truly fulfilling.

Having experienced this, I resonate deeply with the fulfilment of flow, Angela. But why, in your experience, are the pathways towards self-belief so hard to find?

AC: From a neuroscience point of view it’s because the brain is not there to make us happy, it’s there to help us survive. It doesn’t tell us the truth, it repeats and reinforces the thoughts we think most often, and prioritises those neural tracks. So if we constantly stress ourselves with negative self-talk, self-doubt, and judgemental remarks—in other words, listen to our sabotuers—those thoughts barrel through to the survival parts of the brain where our mind and body gets stuck on red alert looking for the next threat. It then gets harder to access the wonderful creative intuitive parts of our brain.

"Road closed and diversion signs on a sunlit urban street, with skyscrapers in the background. Bright red and yellow colors dominate the signs."

So how do we break those thoughts and rewire our thinking to kick saboteurs to the kerb?

AC: We need to pause and consciously change the points on the negative track. Think of it like a train being diverted at the points. We reroute our thoughts into the thrive areas of our brain where we can relax, get curious, and take time to navigate decisions wisely. It’s surprising, once we start noticing what we are thinking, how quickly we can catch our negative thoughts and transform them into positive.

Here's an example of how we can help reroutes occur by focusing intently on one of our senses. When you catch yourself with a negative thought, for at least ten seconds and up to two minutes, gently rub two finger tips together with such focus you can feel the fingertip ridges. Or, find an object to study; a flower, the palm of your hand. Hone in on all the textures, colours, and shapes. Allow the study to take your entire focus. With this mini break of thought, we reroute and find it easier to stay in a positive mindset.

It may sound so simple, but I can attest to how well this simple technique works! Let's focus now on where colour come into play with your coaching.

AC: The framework of the seven chakras and their beautiful colours give us a clear structure to ground ourselves. They help us understand the impact of the past, grow to honour ourselves and our true purpose, and also draw down inspiration and intuition from the universe to help us voice and act that purpose and our inner values in our daily lives. It's not only the chakras that we can draw inspiration from; the wonderful colours in the natural world offer a bounty of colour, too.

Although long acknowledged in the ancient wisdoms, science is finally catching up to the concept of humans as energy beings. Through the work of Einstein and his successors we are beginning to understand how energy and vibrational frequencies can influence living cells and how we are intrinsically part of the whole universe.

What’s your mission with this approach to healing?

AC: My mission is to blend science and holistic wisdom into a practical, healing and coaching framework that empowers women to clear shadows from their energy network and move from self-doubt, over-giving, and people-pleasing to a new-found sense of inner peace and clarity via the framework of the chakras.

Chakra energy and Colours both have powerful frequencies that can be used for growth and healing. Using both, I encourage women to reconnect to their inner truth—perhaps for the first time in years—to gain insight, clarity, and deep understanding, and to use this knowledge with powerful grounding and visualisation tools to create lasting transformation. I believe that when we suffer physically, mentally, or spiritually, there is always an unhelpful pattern to find, a clouding in one or more of the chakra colours that disrupts the energy flow. I love joining these dots, and once we do understand the pattern, we can then create transformation.

What would you say to someone curious about your coaching?

AC: That it takes courage to go deep, but such work is life-changing. Sometimes, it feels easier to keep our familiar mask in place, but not getting to know ourselves properly costs us time, money, energy, relationships, and often our health.

Is there a way to know if our chakras are blocked?

AC: Yes! If readers are interested in finding where their chakra energies may be blocked, my chakra quiz gives excellent insights into where energy may be stuck and holding you back. Once readers have gained an insight into their own energy flow, they can reach out to me via any of the links below if they’d like to explore working with me. As we chat today, readers using this link will be the first to access the quiz pre-launch!

What can clients expect to experience working with you?

AC: I always start the coaching process with a free discovery call so we can both learn if we’ll be a good fit for working together. From there, we choose which programme will be of the most benefit, but in relation to the Chakras, Colour, and Coaching Programme clients can expect the following:

The programme is a seven-week deep dive into the past, present, and future.

In two weeks, you’ll link positive thoughts to everyday habits, engage in positive self-care activities, and believe you’re not responsible for everyone’s happiness.

In four weeks, you’ll confidently say ‘no’ if you don’t want to do things, or if you have no time. You’ll be comfortable delegating tasks and stating clearly who you are and what you stand for.

In seven weeks, insights will be new habits, so no slipping back and/or driving yourself too hard.

In essence, your world will be bursting with colour and possibility again.

If readers would like a taster of what’s possible, I’ll be running a challenge in November 2025 about freeing your chakra energy. Anyone interested can message me on my socials to join the waiting list.

I would encourage anyone curious about my prgrammes to check out my website. I truly feel there's something there for everyone!

It sounds life-changing, Angela!

AC: It is!

You’ve given us a lot of food for thought today, so what final message would you like to impart to our readers?

AC: I believe our legacy is a promise made to the world. We owe it to ourselves to use our intuition and our imagination, and let our true colours shine, because the saddest thing is a seed that is never given the chance to grow.

A beautiful closing! Angela, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy schedule to chat with me today.

AC: You’re welcome, Julie. Thanks for having me!
