Once upon a time, a father gifted his daughter with her first tarot deck. . .

 

. . . and even at that tender age, my knowledge of tarot had already been stained by Hollywood. Like many, I assumed the Death card was to be feared, and I could only read tarot if I had gypsy blood in my veins, a painted vintage caravan, and an impressive collection of tasselled scarves, silver bangles, and crystal balls. So, after a flick through the deck, I hid it in the back of a drawer, more nervous than curious about owning a deck of these mysterious cards.

In 2015, finally armed with a better education on the subject, I took a six-week tarot reading course. I spent the year after giving as many free readings as I could, both online and in person. All the while, I pursued my career in HR, the writing of my books, being a parent, and life in general. But tarot ambled along, keeping me company as I continued to read for myself and others.

In March of 2021 I faced redundancy. By this stage I was writing my eighth book and slotting in tarot readings where I could. But my dream was to earn a living as my own boss, as both an author and a tarot reader. I acknowledged the once-in-a-lifetime-opportunity, and quickly decided to embrace the life-shift to follow my dreams.

As an author, I write for the dark paranormal fantasy genre. My tales are chock full of feisty females, gutsy heroes and heinous villains. If it’s paranormal or supernatural, you’ll find it in my books. I’ve used tarot for many years to guide my creative processes. I know how frustrating it is to lose inspiration, face blocks, or falter over which direction to take next. There’s nothing more exciting and liberating than being in the creative flow, but when we stumble into obstacles, our spark can be quenched, leaving us deflated and stuck. And that's where tarot swoops in to save the day!
