A Tarot Practice to Reveal, Ignite, and Seal

Bealtaine, May 1st, heralds the arrival of summer, and for many of us, a checkpoint following the seeds of intention we sowed at Imbolc. Although this pagan celebration is often framed as a single night of fire and fertility, I like to believe its real power lies in what comes after. Bealtaine leads us into the season where those Imbolc seeds demand deep nurturing, and this year, that season feels especially potent as May is bookended by two full moons. The first falls on Bealtaine itself, and the second on May 31st.

So what if Bealtaine isn’t the main event at all, but the doorway, and the real magic is what you choose to nurture in the weeks that follow?

Stone pillars with vines and flowers flank moon phases against a dark sky. Text: Bealtaine 2026: Between Two Full Moons.

Within May's two full moons, we’re being offered both a threshold and a conclusion: the opportunity to reveal, ignite, and seal. And with Fire Horse energy dominating 2026, action and momentum are fertile ingredients in this lunar window. Therefore, the magic lies not only in a single ritual on May 1st, but in the days that follow, leading us towards the seal of the second full moon. (When I say ‘seal’ I don’t mean a definitive ending, but a closing of the ritual container which allows your work to root instead of drift.)

Bealtaine season as a three-stage initiation

  1. Reveal (Full Moon 1): What is true right now? What’s working, what’s taking shape, what’s buzzing with that Fire Horse momentum. But also, what’s not working? What feels out of alignment, or belongs to a past version of you? As you tend the growth, what weeds need pulling?

  2. Ignite (Bealtaine): Now we lean into the fiery energy of both Bealtaine and the Fire Horse. What are you choosing to feed with your life-force? What is setting your soul on fire? Where is your attention being drawn, and is it where you want it to be?

  3. Seal (Full Moon 2): The conclusion. What has become real through consistent action? What are you seeing now? Where is your focus aimed, and what structure has taken root?

A tarot spread to Reveal, Ignite, and Seal

You can pull this spread on Bealtaine itself, as the first full moon illuminates the threshold. Welcome in the element of fire by lighting a candle. Get comfortable, connect to your breath and heart centre, and when you’re ready, begin.

Bowl of water reflecting light on a wooden table with dried flowers, a lit candle, and a soft cloth, creating a serene ambiance.

Card 1: Reveal

Question: What truth is asking to be acknowledged without spiritual bypassing?

This card is your honest starting point. It may show what you’re ready to admit, what you’re outgrowing, or what you’ve been 'putting up' with.

A campfire burns brightly in a stone fire pit at night, with sparks flying upwards. The background is dark and grassy, enhancing the cozy mood.

Card 2: Ignite

Question: What do I need to choose, commit to, or create in order to honour that truth?

This is the fire of devotion. Not frantic action, but the kind that is manageable, realistic, and full of self-trust.

A lit candle, pen, paper, stone, and lavender on a wooden table by a window. A pentacle charm adds a mystical touch. Cozy ambiance.

Card 3: Seal

Question: What daily or weekly practice will make this real by the next full moon?

This card is your anchor. It points to the habit, structure, or support that turns inspiration into reality.

As the month progresses, check in weekly with the same spread. You can also repurpose the journalling prompts below if you want to come at each theme from a different angle. Whatever you choose, make a note of the cards and your insights so you can see how the energy expands, deepens, or redirects.

Return to these prompts more than once. As the energy wanes after May 1st and slowly builds towards May 31st, your answers may shift too.

Journalling Prompts

Reveal

  • What am I pretending not to know?

  • Where am I asking for clarity, when what I really want is permission?

  • What is the emotional truth underneath the story I keep repeating?

Ignite

  • If I trusted myself completely, what would I choose this week?

  • What would it look like to act from devotion, not urgency?

  • What must I stop feeding (attention, time, emotional labour) to free up life-force?

Seal

  • What does consistent actually mean for me, realistically?

  • What support would make this easier: structure, accountability, rest, community?

  • What would be a clear sign, by May 31st, that I followed through?

A month-long devotional to keep the momentum

If you want a simple container that carries you through the in-between weeks, here’s a devotional you can add onto the tarot draws and journalling.

What you’ll need

  • A candle (a tea light is perfect)

  • A notebook

  • A small bowl of water

  • Optional: one small token for your intention (a charm, crystal, dried herb, a written word)

On May 1st (Full Moon 1 + Bealtaine)

Step 1: Mirror

  • Sit with your bowl of water and candle.

  • Pull your Reveal card.

  • Write one sentence that names the truth plainly.

  • Example: “The truth is that I have outgrown ______, and I am ready to ______.”

  • Speak your truth into your reflection in the water.

Step 2: Choice

  • Pull your Ignite card.

  • Write a short commitment that you can actually keep for the next few weeks.

  • Speak it aloud once. Not as a demand, but as a vow.

  • Example: “Between now and the next full moon, I will show devotion by ______.”

  • Speak this directly to the candle.

In the in-between weeks

There are no rules here. Let your intuition lead the way. You might choose to do this once a week, or every few days.

The five-minute tending

  • Light the candle.

  • Ask: What is one action that seals my intention today?

  • Do a single-card pull.

  • Take one small action within 24 hours.

Keep the action achievable. Anything too grand is likely to feel overwhelming, and this month is about steady devotion.

On May 31st (Full Moon 2)

Step 4: Seal and integrate

  • Pull your Seal card (or pull a fresh card if you want a new message).

  • Journal:

What did I actually do?

What shifted in my energy, my confidence, my boundaries?

What is ready to continue into summer?

  • Thank the version of you who followed through.

If you used a token, place it somewhere you’ll see it throughout the month as a reminder that your magic is not only in your rituals, but in your consistency. Your phone lock screen is an ideal place.

With May holding two full moons, we’re being offered a rare kind of clarity as we step into Bealtaine: the chance to see what is true, choose what we will tend, and prove it to ourselves through action.

If you work with the tarot and/or ritual through May, I’d love to hear what shifted for you. Feel free to get in touch at the end of the month and share what you revealed, ignited, and what you’re ready to carry forward.

And if you’ve enjoyed moving with the lunar rhythm this month, my Lunar Wisdom course might be a lovely next step, especially if you’re craving deeper connection and a steadier practice with the moon.

Remember: you don’t need to become someone else. You’re simply ready to become more fully who you already are. Have a blessed Bealtaine and a month of steady growth, my friends.
