Tarot for the Seasons

Welcome to another month of tarot inspiration, and thank you for joining me last month. If you took part in April’s theme of Blossoming & Creativity, I hope you felt that spark of possibility and the courage to create even when you weren’t fully sure where it would lead. May invites us into the next phase of the journey: Abundance & Gratitude.

May is a month of fullness, a month of noticing what’s already working, what’s already growing, and what’s ready to be celebrated. Abundance is not only about money or milestones. It’s also time, support, ideas, opportunities, health, friendships, creativity, and the quiet moments that make life feel meaningful. Gratitude is the practice that helps us recognise it.

May also carries the seasonal energy of Beltane, one of the great turning points of the Wheel of the Year. Traditionally celebrated around the 1st of May, Beltane is a fire festival that honours life force, passion, fertility, and the return of warmth and colour to the land. It is a celebration of growth and pleasure, of devotion to what makes you feel alive, and of choosing to participate in your own becoming.

If you’re new to Beltane, think of it as the moment spring tips into early summer. The days are brighter, the evenings stretch out, and nature is no longer hesitating. Everything is reaching, climbing, blooming, and claiming space. It’s magical!

And this year, May gives us an extra layer of magic: two Full Moons, on the 1st and the 31st. That means the month is held between two lunar peaks, like a gateway opening and closing. It promises to be a fertile, potent energy, asking you to take your dreams seriously.

With those two Full Moons acting like bookends, May becomes a powerful container for action and momentum. Many people are also feeling the pulse of Fire Horse energy right now: bold, forward-moving, passionate, and unwilling to play small. It’s the kind of energy that says, “If you want it, go for it.”

So if April was the seed and the first green shoots, May is the month where you begin to see what those shoots could become. Projects, intentions, and goals can start to come into fruition, especially when you stay focused and keep showing up between those two lunar gates.

How Tarot & Journaling Connect Us To The Season

If you’re new to this series, here’s the heart of it: tarot and journaling are tools for self-connection. They help you slow down, listen in, and make choices that are aligned with who you truly are, not who you feel pressured to be.

Tarot isn’t about handing your power over to a deck. It’s about using symbolism, archetypes, and intuition to reflect what is happening within you and around you. When you pull cards with intention, you create a conversation with your own inner wisdom. You begin to see patterns, motivations, fears, and desires more clearly.

Journaling supports the process by giving your insights space to be heard. It turns a fleeting feeling into a clear sentence. It helps you track your growth and spot patterns, but most of all, helps you to make sense of what your soul is asking for.

May’s theme of Abundance & Gratitude is especially well suited to tarot because the cards are brilliant at showing:

  • Where you’re already supported

  • What you’re overlooking

  • What’s ready to expand

  • What you need to release in order to receive

  • What action will create the most momentum

When you work with tarot throughout the month, you’re not only checking in but actively staying on track. When you choose alignment again and again that is how you shift your life: not through one perfect decision, but through consistent, soul-led choices.

Weekly Challenge Overview

Below you’ll find four weekly themes, each with a 3-card spread, a prompt, and expanded guidance to help you go deeper.

You can do the spread once at the start of the week, or repeat it midweek if you want to examine what’s changing. You can use any tarot deck you love. And if you prefer oracle cards, you can absolutely adapt these prompts.

Week 1: Gratitude as a Portal

Why this matters: Beltane opens the month with fire and celebration. Gratitude helps you step into that energy with awareness. When you name what is already good, you become more available to receive what is next.

The Gratitude Gate

Prompt: Show me what I need to recognise, honour, and appreciate so I can step into May with an open heart and clear focus.

1: What is already abundant in my life right now?

2: What have I achieved or grown that I have not fully honoured yet?

3: How can I express gratitude in a way that strengthens my path?

Expanded Guidance

Start this week by looking at your life as it is, not as it 'should' be. Abundance often hides in the everyday: the friend who checks in, the client who returns, the idea that won’t leave you alone, the small improvements you made without fanfare.

If your second card highlights something you’ve been dismissing, take that as a sign to pause and acknowledge your progress. Many of us move the goalposts the moment we reach them. This week is about letting yourself feel the win.

Your third card is your practice. Gratitude can be spoken, written, offered, shared, or embodied. It might look like a thank-you message, a ritual with a candle, a walk where you consciously notice beauty, or a decision to stop apologising for taking up space.

Week 2: Receiving and Worthiness

Why this matters: Abundance is not only about what you create, it’s also what you allow yourself to receive. This week explores the inner beliefs that shape your capacity for support, pleasure, and success.

The Open Hands Spread

Prompt: Help me understand what I am ready for, what I am resisting, and what will support me in receiving with confidence.

1: What am I ready to receive more of this month?

2: What belief or pattern is limiting my ability to receive?

3: What action will help me expand my sense of worthiness?

Expanded Guidance

Receiving can bring up surprising emotions. Sometimes we’re comfortable giving, creating, and striving, and yet receiving can feel vulnerable. It can bring up fear of being seen, fear of owing something, or fear that it will all disappear.

Your first card shows the flavour of abundance that wants to find you. It might be practical, emotional, creative, romantic, spiritual, or financial. Let it be specific.

Your second card is not here to shame you. It’s simply showing you the pattern. Notice whether it’s rooted in scarcity, self-doubt, perfectionism, or the habit of doing everything alone.

Your third card is your invitation. It may be a boundary, a brave conversation, a new offer, a price increase, a commitment to rest, or a decision to ask for help. Receiving often requires structure.

Week 3: Action, Momentum, and Fruition

Why this matters: With two Full Moons holding the month, the middle weeks are prime time for movement. This is where Fire Horse energy can be harnessed: clear direction, bold steps, and consistent follow-through.

Tarot theme is "Abundance & Gratitude" for May. Three cards labeled 1-3 set the stage for questions about goals and commitment.

The Fire Horse Path

Prompt: Show me where my energy wants to go, what step will create momentum, and how I can stay steady as I move forward.

1: What goal or project is ready for focused action now?

2: What is the most powerful next step I can take this week?

3: What will help me stay committed when motivation dips?

Expanded Guidance

This week is not for doing everything. It’s for doing the right thing.

Your first card points to the area of life where you’re ready to see results. It might be a creative project, a relationship, a health goal, a business offer, or a spiritual practice. If you’ve been circling something for a while, pay attention.

Your second card is your next step. Keep it practical. Even if the card feels big, ask: What is the smallest real-world action that honours this message? One email. One hour of focused work. One One conversation.

Your third card is your sustainability card. It shows what keeps you grounded and consistent. For some, it’s accountability. For others, it’s routine, rest, or reconnecting to purpose. Let this card become your anchor.

Week 4: Celebration, Integration, and Future Abundance

Why this matters: As we approach the second Full Moon on the 31st, we’re invited to reflect on what has grown, what has shifted, and what we want to carry forward.

The Harvest & Horizon Spread

Prompt: Help me recognise what has changed, integrate what I have learned, and choose an intention that supports my future.

1: What has grown or expanded for me this month?

2: What lesson or insight do I want to integrate before June?

3: What intention will support my next chapter of abundance?

Expanded Guidance

This week is about taking stock in a conscious, non-critical way.

Your first card is your evidence. Even if May felt messy or busy, something has shifted. Look for internal growth as well as external results. Sometimes the expansion is confidence, clarity, or the ability to say no.

Your second card is your integration. What do you want to remember? What do you want to do differently next time? What truth are you ready to live by?

Your third card is your bridge into June. Choose an intention that feels alive. Not performative. Not pressured. Something you can return to when life gets loud.

Downloadable Tracker

Don’t forget to download the printable tracker sheet for May.

I designed it to help you stay consistent with the weekly spreads, note your reflections, and track what you’re noticing as the month unfolds. If you love having a structure to return to, the tracker makes the whole challenge feel more grounded and doable.

Further Journaling

When you write after a reading, you give yourself the chance to explore the message beyond the first impression. You may notice emotions you didn’t expect, memories that surface, or a deeper truth underneath the obvious interpretation. Journaling also helps you build trust with your intuition over time, because you can look back and see how the cards spoke to you, and how you responded.

Here are eight journal prompts, two for each week, aligned with the theme.

Week 1 journal prompts (Gratitude as a Portal)

  1. What am I grateful for that I usually overlook, and why do I minimise it?

  2. If I fully honoured my progress from the last three months, what would I celebrate today?

Week 2 journal prompts (Receiving and Worthiness)

  1. Where in my life do I struggle to receive, and what story do I tell myself about that?

  2. What would change if I believed, without question, that I am worthy of support and success?

Week 3 journal prompts (Action, Momentum, and Fruition)

  1. What does aligned action look like for me, and how do I know when I’m in it?

  2. What is one fear that slows my momentum, and what is a more empowering truth I can choose instead?

Week 4 journal prompts (Celebration, Integration, and Future Abundance)

  1. What have I learned about myself this month, and how can I integrate that lesson going forward?

  2. What does abundance mean to me now, and what do I want to call in for the next season?
