Tarot for the Collective

Hello, my friends, and welcome back to Tarot for the Collective which took a short break for last week’s June bank holiday.

This week, the skies are putting on quite a show for us! On Tuesday the 9th of June, Venus and Jupiter come together in a rare conjunction in the sign of Cancer. Jupiter is the planet of luck and expansion while Venus governs love, beauty, and relationships. Together, they amplify blessings, ease, and opportunity, particularly around growth in relationships, finances, and personal prospects.

Overall, it’s a theme of receiving with an open heart and grounded head, so that’s exactly what our cards are exploring this week.

Before we dive in, I want to hold a small moment of acknowledgement. This week's reading is drawn from the Buffy the Vampire Slayer Tarot, and it feels only right to dedicate it to the extraordinary Anthony Head, who brought Rupert Giles to life so beautifully and who passed away this weekend. For so many of us, Giles was the quiet backbone of the Buffy gang. He was the wise, steady, deeply feeling heart of the whole story, and it feels so fitting, and more than a little magickal, that June's anchor card — the King of Cups — features Giles in this deck. May he rest in the most peaceful of lights.

This one's for you, Giles.

June's Anchor Card

Our anchor card for June is the King of Cups, and what a guide to have walking with us through this month. The King of Cups is the master of emotional intelligence; he feels everything, but isn’t swept away by it. He leads with compassion, holds space with steadiness, and knows that true wisdom lives in the heart as much as the mind. Keep him close this week as we unpack what the cards are telling us.

Ace of Pentacles

The Ace of Pentacles is like a seed dropped into freshly turned soil, and under this Venus-Jupiter conjunction in Cancer, the conditions for growth couldn't be more fertile. This is the card of new beginnings in the material world: a fresh financial opportunity, a new job prospect, a shift in your physical environment, or a step toward better health. What’s important with this card is that it’s not promising a harvest, only the seed and the possibility that comes with it. If you want to reap its benefits, you must take action.

With the great benefics aligned in the sky above us, many of you may experience this energy as an unexpected opening. It could be a conversation that leads somewhere promising, an idea that suddenly sprouts legs, or a door that appears where there wasn't one before. The Venus-Jupiter conjunction amplifies exactly the kind of luck and abundance this card carries. The universe is nudging you with a message of ‘This is real, and it's worth nurturing.’ So when the opportunity arrives, take it!

The King of Cups whispers here too. He asks you to receive this gift with an open heart, but let your emotional intelligence guide your next steps. Don't let excitement override discernment.

Affirmation: I am open to receiving new beginnings with both gratitude and wisdom.

10 of Pentacles

From the Ace to the 10 in a single leap, and that swift movement tells us something important. The 10 of Pentacles is the card of legacy and long-term security. This is the kind of abundance that isn't just for you, but for those who come after you. It speaks of home, family lineage, and financial stability that’s built over time, and with that comes the deep satisfaction of knowing you've created something that lasts.

But the jump from Ace to 10 isn't a promise that this week delivers the whole journey in one fell swoop. (Although, that would be nice!) What it’s doing is showing us the vision. The Ace, our seed, already contains the full tree, so it’s telling you that what you're beginning now, or what is beginning for you, has the potential to become something genuinely lasting. This is the conjunction energy made manifest: expansion (Jupiter) and harmony (Venus) combining to support your most grounded, long-term dreams.

The question this card asks is: what are you building, and who are you building it for? Legacy isn't only about money. It's about the home you create, the well-being you nurture, and the values you pass on, so build with integrity.

Affirmation: I am building a life of lasting abundance, rooted in love and intention.

5 of Swords

Our wise third card steps in like a firm but kind hand on the shoulder. The 5 of Swords is the card of the hollow victory. This is a win that doesn't feel like one. It’s the conflict where everyone walks away diminished, and the moment of being ‘right’ costs more than it was worth.

In the context of this week's expansive energy, this card is a caution. When luck and abundance are flowing, there can be a temptation to move fast and step over others in the rush toward the good thing. The 5 of Swords asks you to pause and consider: are you winning this in a way you'll be proud of? Are there people being left behind or spoken over in your excitement? And, equally important, is someone else playing a game around you? Be discerning about those who might use silver-tongued words to undermine your confidence or redirect what's rightfully yours this week.

Affirmation: I pursue my goals with integrity, knowing that true success honours everyone it touches.

Journal Prompts

  1. Where in your life are you being offered a new beginning right now, and what might be holding you back from fully receiving it?

  2. When you imagine lasting security and legacy, what does that actually look like for you? Is it financial, relational, creative, or some combination of all three?

  3. Think of a recent situation where you ‘won’ but it didn't feel good, or where you felt someone used sharp words or tactics against you. What did that teach you about the kind of power you actually want to hold?

This week, the Ace and 10 of Pentacles carry the gift of expansion with the reminder to expand wisely. A genuine, potentially legacy-building opportunity is arriving (or unfolding) this week, turbocharged by beautiful cosmic energy. But the 5 of Swords reminds us that how we move matters as much as where we're going. Let the King of Cups be your north star. Lead from the heart, communicate with integrity, and make sure your victory lifts others as well as yourself.

As always, take what resonates, and set aside anything that doesn't feel like yours. Every reading speaks differently to every soul.
