We’d all like to invite more prosperity and abundance into our lives, right? Whether it be love, business opportunities, joy, health, or wealth, there’s always room for more of the good stuff.
What does abundance mean to you? The Oxford dictionary defines it as ‘a very large quantity of something’, and for many, wealth is the first thing that springs to mind. But take a moment to look beyond your bank balance and consider other areas of your life. What difference would all or any of the following make to you?
Better health
Greater job satisfaction
Supportive, caring friends
A healthy, loving relationship
Increased business opportunities
Deeper spiritual connection
Abundance means having prosperity, where we possess both the physical items alongside the non-tangible that bring meaning and happiness into our lives. When we live abundantly, we’re not only tuned in to working with abundance in meaningful ways, but we also know how to create the space for the gift of abundance to continue entering. Working with abundance rituals, no matter how simple or complex, give us the opportunity to articulate that which we desire and need, and from there, instigate the actions to attain them.
When it comes to abundance, the first and most important step is intent. Be specific with what you desire. Let’s say your focus is on a romantic relationship. Get clear on what you want, avoiding what you don’t want. Writing a list may help. From there, put together an affirmation or mantra, and each time you perform a ritual, repeat it aloud (or in silence if necessary). Here are a few examples:
I have a healthy and loving relationship that fulfils my needs.
I am grateful for my caring, supportive partner.
I am respected and loved.
The timing of ritual is important. Many like to work with the 1st day of the month, others with new or full moons. With each phase or day associated with particular correspondences that can boost the power of your intent, it’s always worth considering this aspect for your ritual.
Here’s a quick summary of the different timing options.
The 1st of the month is considered by many to be a good time to form new intentions. If you feel empowered by the arrival of a new month, then work with that energy.
A new moon brings rising energy. It’s an ideal period for fresh starts and reboots. As the moon waxes towards the full, it brings energies packed with manifesting, hustle, perseverance and endurance, so if, for example, you’re working with prosperity intentions surrounding your business, the new moon waxing to full moon phase (which covers two weeks) will boost that manifesting work.
At the full moon, we release and let go that which no longer serves, so it’s a good time to clear out negativity. As it wanes towards the new moon, set boundaries, recharge and be mindful of self-care. If you’re working to release blocks or break habits, consider working with these two weeks of waning energy. The full moon is also a time to celebrate that which has manifested, so you might like to take a moment to send out gratitude, too! The Universe sends back what it receives, so what better way to receive more positivity, than to give thanks for what you’ve already got.
Week days play an important role, too. Repeating your ritual on the relevant week day throughout the month will add an extra sprinkle of magic to your ritual.
Sunday: The Sun. Success, fame ,wealth. A day for working towards personal achievement or acclaim. Excellent for career-related ritual.
Monday: The Moon. Think of mystery, illusion, dreams and psychic work. With her feminine energy, Monday is also a great day for fertility and emotions.
Tuesday: Mars. Strength, courage, and passion. A day for warriors, for facing challenges head on with a fiery heart.
Wednesday: Mercury. This patron god is one of contradictions, so there can be a zany energy ideal for stirring change and excitement. Communication work, smart thinking, and even a pinch of cunning are associated with this day of the week.
Thursday: Jupiter. Also known as ‘Thor’s day’ it’s a day for abundance and strength, so bring on those prosperity and abundance rituals. It’s also a good day for health.
Friday: Venus. Love, of course! Work with fertility, romance and birthing on this day. Associated with the Norse goddess, Freya, Friday is the best day for heart-centred work.
Saturday: Saturn. Clean out the funk on Saturdays. Banish negativity and cleanse your space. Tackle that which has been ignored and shake up the stale energies. A great day for protection work.
As you can see, depending on your intention, there’s a day, and moon phase which can partner your ritual. Decide which phase and/or day suits you best. Remember, there’s no right or wrong, and as I mentioned, your intent is the most powerful ingredient!
A Note On Decluttering
One of the best ways to encourage prosperity into your home is to keep it clean and tidy. A home where clutter abounds results in stuck energy that quickly stagnates. Keeping a neat, clutter-free home is one of the foundational practices when it comes to inviting positivity, so if you're struggling with abundance right now, consider making a start on removing that which no longers serves you or your home.
If you’re facing a major clean-out, take it one inch, shelf, corner, wall, or room at a time. Viewing the task in small, manageable areas is a lot easier than staring at the overwhelm of an entire home. There are endless articles to be found online on how to declutter, so I won’t dive into the subject here, but to get your abundance work off to a good start, your space should be one where energy can flow easily, where there’s fresh air, cleanliness, and no clutter. Research has demonstrated the link between clean, tidy homes and increased mental health, so it’s not just for the woo-woo minded folk!
Now that you have your intent, affirmations, and a grasp on timing, here are a few rituals designed to bring more abundance into your life.
Magickal Washes
It may seem like the farthest thing from an abundance ritual, but the next time you pull out the mop and snap on the rubber gloves, you have the opportunity to work a little prosperity magick. By adding a few drops of essential oils to clean, warm water, you can create a simple wash to complement your intent. Here’s a brief list of essential oils and their properties. Simply add three or four drops of whichever oils suit your needs to clean, warm water and wipe down surfaces to bring extra positivity and a lovely scent.
Harmony: Lilac, gardenia, basil.
Love: Rose, jasmine, clove.
Money: Bergamot, mint, pine.
Protection: Patchouli, rosemary, cypress
Healing: Sandalwood, eucalyptus, violet
Spirituality: Lotus, magnolia, sandalwood
Luck: Cinnamon, clove, vanilla
Abundance: Cinnamon, basil, peppermint
You can also create a more elaborate wash which can be added to the mop bucket, infused into a spray bottle, or used to dampen a cloth before dusting. Here’s an earlier post on magickal washes. If you create your own, a quick online search will direct you to the best herbs, oils, and crystals to use for your specific intent.
Front Door Magick
The front door is one of the most important points of the home. The entranceway is the portal to the outside world, so treat it as the space where positive energy flows into your home. Regularly clean the area outside. Remove cobwebs, leaves, and anything littering the ground. Keep the welcome mat clean and fresh. Consider placing planters with geraniums or chrysanthemums by the door. These plants are said to bring good luck and abundance to the home, along with citrus trees, pothos, money tree, umbrella plant, jade, and areca palm. If it’s not possible to keep these outside your door, they can also be placed in your hallway near the door, but do check each plant’s sunlight requirements to ensure they’ll be happy in their new space.
Once a month, wash down the front door with water infused with cinnamon and/or peppermint oil. This can be done on the 1st of the month, on the new moon, or the full moon. Which timing you use depends on your personal practices. Listen to your intuition too! If you feel you work best with a full moon and love the wild zingy energy it produces, embrace that joy, moon baby!
Money Bowl
If you’re saving for a specific item, running a business, or just in need of a healthier bank balance, a money bowl is simple ritual to try.
To begin, ensure your intention is clear and positive. Here are a few examples; ‘I attract wealth. Opportunities flow my way bringing me abundance. I can comfortably afford to pay my bills every month. Money flows to me in increasing quantities on a consistent basis.’ Remember to use positive, affirming statements specific to your needs.
What You’ll Need:
A bowl: Any material will work, but colour is important. Green and gold are the colours of money and abundance, so it’s preferable to work with a bowl with one or both of these colours.
Rice: To represent good fortune and abundance.
Cinnamon: Stick or powder.
Candle: A green or gold candle works best, but a simple white tea-light is good too. It’s the intention that counts!
Money: The amount doesn’t matter, and you can use paper and coins.
Crystal: Any crystal that attracts wealth; citrine, green aventurine, pyrite, jade, moss agate, carnelian, malachite, bloodstone.
Bay leaf: You’ll also need a pen to write on the leaf.
To Make the Money Bowl:
Using sage or another form of incense, cleanse the bowl. As you do, hold your intention firmly in your thoughts. You can speak it aloud, or repeat it in your mind.
Pour the rice into the bowl—enough to fully cover the base.
Add the cinnamon. If you’re using sticks, place them in the rice. Cinnamon powder can be sprinkled over the rice.
Place the money on top.
Place the candle in the middle of the bowl.
Arrange the crystals around the candle.
On the bay leaf, write your intention. Place the bay leaf in the bowl.
Light the candle, and sit with your money bowl for a while, picturing yourself enjoying financial abundance.
The wealth area in the home can be located by standing with your back to the inside of your front door and pinpointing the farthest left corner of the house. This would be the considered the most beneficial setting for the money bowl. However, you can also treat the far left corner of each room as a wealth corner, too. (Locate the far left corner with your back to the inside of the room’s door.) If, for example, you are self-employed and work from home, the room where you run your business would benefit from having a money bowl.
Keep your intention burning by visiting your money bowl regularly. Light the candle when practical and take a moment to repeat your affirmations. Throw in loose coins, or notes if you feel the bowl needs a boost. You can also add more cinnamon or crystals. A great time to begin working with a money bowl is just after the New Moon as energy rises and dreams are manifested. Sunday is a favourable day for money and abundance, too.
Prosperity Powder
Prosperity powder can be used at your front door, sprinkled over a crystal grid, or at the entranceway to your office. You need only use a pinch at a time, so don’t worry about blasting puffs of ground herbs on your lovely clean floors, or setting off allergies! Once you have the ingredients gathered, reflect on your intent, and repeat it and/or your affirmations as you make the powder.
What You’ll Need:
A clean, dry jar with an airtight lid.
A pestle and mortar (or something to finely grind dry ingredients)
Gather all, or as many of the following as possible: Bay leaves, Nutmeg, Cinnamon (sticks preferably, but ground will work too), Ginger, Basil, Mint, Thyme, Cloves, All Spice, Star Anise, Cardamom, Saffron.
How to Make:
Prepare your glass jar by infusing it with incense. Cinnamon works best. If you obtained a cinnamon stick, light one end and allow the smoke to fill the clean, dry jar, then set aside.
Grind each of the dry ingredients one by one. Repeat your affirmation as you work. Once reduced to a fine powder, tip each ingredient into the jar. When all have been added, seal the jar and gently shake to blend all the powders.
If it feels right, add a small crystal to the jar. Pyrite, jade, green aventurine, and citrine are all stones of abundance and prosperity.
Allow the powder to sit for a full twenty-four hours before using. Depending on the moon’s phase and your intent, you could leave it sitting on inside window sill overnight.
On your chosen moon phase, date, or day, (or a blend of all three!) place a pinch of the powder into your dominant (receiving) hand. Stand outside your open front door, but facing into your home. State your intention, or create one specific to the powder. For example: ‘With this prosperity powder I blow abundance into my home. My business is thriving and I enjoy its success’. Blow the powder over the threshold.
You can do the same in an interior doorway. If you are working on abundance for loving relationships within the family, blow the powder over the living room threshold after stating your intent. Or, if you have a home office, blow it through the doorway of this room, again, stating your intent for abundance within your career or business.
If you are concerned about small children or pets ingesting the powder, try to leave it in place for at least twenty-four hours before vacuuming. If the ingredients are ground finely enough, and only a pinch used, the quantity shouldn’t be an issue for curious pets or children.
I hope you find inspiration amongst these abundance rituals. Give one, or more, a try over the next few months. Intent is the most powerful ingredient when it comes to ritual, but listen to your intuition, too. If you feel that adding or taking away an ingredient, or tweaking the process would work better for you, then go for it! The more of our self that we put into working with abundance, the stronger the intent behind it grows.
