Hello, Creatives!
I’m back after a short break following last week’s bank holiday. It was a new one for Ireland—which is why I forgot it was coming—and one celebrating Saint Brigid. As she’s firmly rooted in pagan tradition, I’m so happy to see her being honoured with her own feast day. I celebrated my own ‘feast day’ at the weekend. It was my birthday on the 11th, and I had a wonderful time celebrating with family and friends. Thankfully, there’s still lots of chocolate cake remaining.
Today is the third quarter of the moon’s phase. Also known as the last quarter, the moon is visible as a half in the sky. With this phase comes an energy of balance and setting boundaries, so this week’s reading examines these themes by asking What’s in balance, What’s out of balance, Where do I need to set boundaries.
The 2 of Swords is the card of Stalemate. It pops up when we’re tangled by decision and unsure of which way to turn. Appearing in the ‘In Balance’ position, it suggests that sitting tight and not making any sweeping decisions just yet is the right thing to do. Not unlike the Hermit card, the 2 of Swords calls for introspection, so if you’ve been allowing things to percolate, you’re on the right track. Meditate on the situation for another while. You’ll know the right choice to make when the time comes.
"No good work is ever done while the heart is hot and anxious and fretted." - Olive Schriner
The Page of Wands represents an impulsive nature knocking things off balance this week. While it stems from enthusiasm and a drive to succeed, there can be a tendency to behave recklessly, so watch out for this behaviour in yourself and/or others as the week develops. This could show up as itching to get started with a new creative endeavour, and jumping straight in without doing the proper groundwork. It could also indicate a colleague who’s colouring a little too far outside the lines. Do what you can to rein in that impulsiveness this week. It may further impact the stalemate situation going on with the 2 of Swords otherwise.
Take a time-out to rest, recuperate, and regroup!
Another Swords card, and this one is the 4, the card of retreat. When the 4 of Swords appears, it’s time to withdraw from the battlefield to rest, recuperate, and regroup. Where the 2 of Swords demanded pause for thought, the 4 insists on withdrawal to recuperate and take stock. Set boundaries around self-care this week. You need a timeout to rest, heal, and plot a new course. Others may try to talk you out of it and insist you continue on your current path, (looking at you Page of Wands energy) but you need to hit pause before you go any further.
A week of introspection incoming! Swords are cards of intellect and logic, so expect to find yourself expending a lot of mental energy this week. Keep an eye on that Page of Wands energy. If it runs without check, it could easily exacerbate the situation with the Swords. Have a wonderful week, creative souls!
